Changes to scope, costs and timescales are often managed in such a way that the project sponsor doesn't get what they expected at the outset. What seem to be minor changes often slip through without the full impact being investigated and this often has an adverse effect further down the project timeline. It can be catastrophic to the project outcome if anything major gets through without being managed in a co-ordinated way.
